We've stayed in many, many hostels all over the globe and we've handpicked our top 10 favourite to help make some of your decisions that little bit easier.

1. Hop Hostel 📍Coron, The Philippines
Hop Hostel sits on the top of a hill with their rooftop bar overlooking the beautiful bay of Coron. You will be hard pushed to find anywhere with a better view as you sip on a beer.
Not only that, but the facilities here are fantastic. It is clean, comfortable and provides a free supper to guests, as well as the option for double-beds in dorm rooms and curtains for privacy.

2. YHA Backpackers📍Byron Bay, Australia
YHA Backpackers is not only very conveniently located, clean and comfortable, but it also has a nice contemporary feel with modern decor across the lounge, kitchen and pool area.
There's dorms and private rooms to choose from, and a surf board rental service which you'll have to avail of during your time in Byron.

3. Tribu Hostel📍Isla Holbox, Mexico
This vibrant hostel is the perfect place to make some new travel buddies with a new activity planned every night of the week. It's super close to the white beaches of Holbox and boasts a small rooftop terrace that is the perfect place to watch the sunset.
There is a variety of rooms to choose from and, best of all, each one comes with its own balcony.

4. Books Hostel📍Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
In terms of facilities, we're going to be honest - Books Hostel isn't the most glam. But the amazing atmosphere makes up for that ten times over. The team at Books not only feel like a family but they make every single guest feel like a part of that family too.
Felipe, the founder of Books, has a rare skill of remembering just about everyone that passes through his hostel doors. He will become a friend and you will always be welcomed back to Books with open arms!

5. Casa Elemento📍Minca, Colombia
The single coolest thing about Casa Elemento is that it is home to the world's largest hammock overlooking the jungle. There is very few places that are cooler to hang out and chat to fellow backpackers.
The hostel is surrounded by their farms where almost all of their food produce comes from, so you're going to want to have a bite to eat here!

6. The Doctor's House📍Matara, Sri Lanka
Situated on the beautiful south coast of Sri Lanka, this hostel is a former Dutch hostel; hence the name! It is run by a group of young Australian guys and is the epitome of chilled vibes.
Serving wood-fired pizza, as well as nutritious food, and the tastiest cocktails it will be a place you'll want to spend a sunset hangout even if you're not staying there. There is ample space out the front of the hostel to meet new people, play games, or just relax. However, the dorm rooms are limited so definitely book in advance!

7. Lub D 📍Manila, The Philippines
Lub D in Manila is the largest hostel in the Philippines, with the facilities to show for it. There is a Relaxation Room, a co-working space for digital nomads, and a rooftop bar & restaurant (albeit it isn't the cheapest option for food & drinks!)
If you want to treat yourself, or simply need a break, choose a private room which gives you the sense you're in a gorgeous hotel. It is a relaxing oasis in the heart of a bustling city.

8. St Christophers📍Paris, France
The only European hostel to make our list is St Christophers Gare Du Nord hostel, conveniently located right across the road from the Eurostar station. This is a great place to stay if you want to party in Paris, with pub crawls and themed nights often running.
It is safe, near 3 metro lines, and offers free breakfast and free walking tours.

9. Candelaria Hostel📍 Valladolid, Mexico
The colourful Candelaria Hostel is ran by its owners and offers an authentic Mexican vibe. There is a calm and safe atmosphere, with a peaceful garden and hammocks to relax in allowing you to totally chill out.
You will get a substantial free breakfast, as well as pasta or rice to cook for your dinner in the well equipped kitchen. Nobody goes hungry at Candelaria!

10. The Spindrift 📍Weligama, Sri Lanka
Ran by a young English couple, The Spindrift Hostel is new and located in the surfers paradise of Weligama beach. Boasting multiple chill-out areas, including balconies and a workspace, plus a communal area for the free breakfast you will be hard pushed not to make some friends here.
The owners, who also live in the hostel, organise and get involved in daily evening activities creating the perfect atmosphere for a laid-back, fun place to stay.
